Times are tough all over. To some, libraries are an unnecessary luxury - after all, what do we need books for when we have the Internet? - elsewhere councils are forced to make cuts they don't want to our library provision in order to safeguard other services.
I love my local library. It's 5 minutes walk from my house (and I freely admit that having a library branch so close was a selling point for me when I was looking at places to live) and they can request a book from elsewhere in the city or county for me to collect there for 45p. That's less than the price of a daily newspaper, for something that is likely to give me infinitely more pleasure!
So, support your local libraries and give them your business. Like they say, use it or lose it!
