Don't Look Back - Karin Fossum
In Don't Look Back, our hero is Inspector Sejer, who comes to a small Norwegian town where everyone knows everyone else and nobody locks their doors, in search of a missing girl. However, nothing is quite what it seems and soon he's investigating a murder for which there seem to be no suspects or possible motive.

It's always really hard to judge how good someone's writing is once a translator has got hold of it, but Fossum's prose is easy going, even if she does like to try and lead the reader down the garden path. I'd guessed who did what before the end, but that's no great feat where most crime novels are concerned, and it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book itself. The series continues in He Who Fears the Wolf.
